Cake Decorating Workshop
Sunday, August 3rd, 2025
Shady Hazel Farm | Gibsons, BC
with Liz & pastry chef Charlie-May
A flower-fueled afternoon in celebration of cake, summer, and the seasonal bounty that brings us together.
Join me and my fave pastry pal Charlie-May Bingham (head baker at Tommy's Whole Grain in Vancouver) at Shady Hazel Farm for an afternoon of cake decorating, sips + snacks! At the height of the season, when the fruit is tender and the blooms are in their final flush. We'll guide you through building and decorating cakes that hold flavor and feeling: organic whole grain cake, stone fruit compote, berry jams (by our fave East Van Jam), botanical syrup, not-too-sweet buttercream.
Sharing our love for cake—for slowness, for seasonality, for celebration—is one of the greatest joys of our work. And to do it alongside friends, beautiful BC surroundings, is a gift we're so excited to share with you.
You’ll go home with the whole cake to keep—or to gift! Just cake, coffee (by Gibson's very best Botany Rd), a selection of sweets and Snak beverages, flowers, and a lot of fun, fleeting moments we hope you’ll carry with you.
This workshop is for anyone who wants to reconnect to the quiet beauty of making things thoughtfully, and with others.

Getting There
If you’re traveling from out of town, especially from Vancouver, we recommend planning ahead— ferries to the Sunshine Coast tend to book up quickly around the long weekend. The earlier you reserve your spot, the smoother your journey will be. Better yet, make a weekend of it. Stay a night or two, breathe in the trees, visit the water, and let the rhythm of the coast set the pace. All transportation and travel arrangements are up to each guest to organize themselves, but we’re happy to help with guidance or suggestions if needed. Below are a few nearby accommodations, if you do choose to stay overnight, and need a starting point:
Sunshine Lodge
& many other airbnb's close by as well...
